Imperial opal, also known as Ethiopian opal, comes from Wegel Tena and is a hydrophane, but it differs greatly from Australian hydrophane opal. The porous nature of hydrophane opal allows it to absorb water. When Australian hydrophane opal is submerged in water, it absorbs some of it and displays a colorful display (sometimes stunning) that fades or disappears as the stone dries. Australian hydrophanes are not appropriate for jewellery since they only show their best color when wet. When immersed in water, however, the Ethiopian hydrophane opals lose their greatest color play and become more translucent and less beautiful

Origin: Australia. Color: Multicolor. Clarity: Opaque. Cut: Facets. Treatment: Untreated 100% Genuine Gemstone
