Astrophyllite is rarely used as an ornamental material due to its scarcity and high cost. It is heavier, softer, and more delicate.   Because the crystals have perfect cleavage, they are commonly left in place, with the aggregate being cut into slabs and polished. It is sometimes fashioned into cabochons and used in jewellery.
