Taxes & Duties: Precious gemstones and the
jewellery imported into France have to be declared. They are liable for
payment of Value Added Tax (VAT.), if they are sold in the French market.
But if they are re-exported after storage within a bonded area like Centre
Francais des Pierres Precieuses, they can be imported free of taxes.Exports:
France exports jewellery, colored gemstones and pearls to Switzerland, USA,
Germany, U.K., Japan and the Arab countries.
Trade with India: France figures prominently
in the list of the top dozen buyers of Indian gems and jewellery. Imports
from India include cut and polished diamonds, colored gemstones, pearls,
nongold jewellery and imitation jewellery.
Some Indian precious goods also find their way to France via other countries.
