Gems Exports: Sri Lanka's gemstones exports have been growing. Much of the recent growth in exports is due to demand for calibrated blue and white sapphire, but the limited supply of rough has \ restricted continued expansion. The new regulations will allow more rough to be imported.

Imports-Exports: Sri Lanka imports rough and polished diamonds from Belgium, England and India. Sri Lanka's main trading partners for precious exports are Hong Kong and Japan. Belgium is the biggest trading partner for diamond imports and exports.

Regulated Outflow: Export orders executed by more than 700 registered private parties are regulated by the State Gems Corporation which also exercises control on quality and genuineness.
