Diamond Mining:
Diamond deposits are mainly located in the Yakutia (Sakha Republic) within the Russian Federation.

The first Russian underground diamond mine has been opened in the Northern Siberian region of Sakha. So far Russia had been mining diamonds from open-pit operations.

The country's biggest diamond producer, the state-controlled Alrosa company, will operate the underground mine which is expected to process two hundred thousand tones of diamond-bearing ore a year.
