Myanmar pearls are known for their large size (14 mm. to 18 mm. diametre). The varieties popular are Round Silver pearls, Round Golden pearls, Drop Silver pearls, Drop Golden pearls, B class pearls and irregular pearls.

Myanmar excels in the production of South Sea Pearls since long. Five licences have been issued for establishing private companies. Official Trade: Gems imports-exports stand nationalized in Myanmar. Trade is handled by the Myanmar Export-Import Corporation, Yangoon, (part of the Ministry of Mines) which organizes the yearly Myanmar Gems Emporium in Yangoon in the first quarter of the new year.
A few diamonds, reportedly polished in Myanmar, were also offered for sale in the Emporium last time.
Thailand is trying to forge regular bilateral gems trade relations with Myanmar, for which both countries have already exchanged trade delegations.
