A TRIBUTE TO THE TWIN TOWERS : An Indian jewellery designer, Nayna Mehta, has created a diamond-and-gold -studded replica of New York city's World Trade Center towers that were destroyed in terrorist attacks in September 2001. The replica is a tribute to the American spirit following the tragedy. The piece will be unveiled at the JA New York summer show.

The Twin Towers have been recreated in 18-kt yellow gold and studded with 14080 princes cut diamonds weighing a total of 255 carats each measuring 1.4 mm and weighing approximately 0.02 carat, invisibly set in columns. Four solid pillars of 18-kt god gold internally support each tower mesuring approximately 185 mm in height. The surrounding buildings such as the North and the South Plazas the US customs office and a hotel have also been created n 18-kt gold. The entire structure stand on a solid square plate of rolled sheet gold on which is engraved a poem saluting the courage of America.

The towers have been manufactured using the lost wax casting technique that involves setting the diamonds in wax, while the surrounding parts are all handmade. It took 25 weeks and a team of over 38 artists, designers and technicians to complete the model which contains over 1.5 kilos (approximately 48 oz) of gold. Wholesale gemstone pendents by weight
The entire piece is mounted on a rich rosewood base, which gently slopes down in steps on all four sides and is encased in a removable acrylic box.
A graduate from the geological Institute of America, Mehta has had over 30 years of experience in designing producing and marketing jewellery. She says "While I was appalled by the horrific place strikes, I was amazed to see the entire nation resolutely take a powerful stand". Wholesale labrorite Jewellery
