Twenty-two jewellery factories are being established across the border in an export processing zone in Panyu, in the People's Republic of China by a developer in Hong Kong. The developer is a joint-venture company in Hong Kong. The factories are in the Lian Hua Shan Foreign Processing Zone in Guandong province and will be available to companies wishing to manufacture in China.

Many other investors are establishing their gems and jewellery factories in China because of very cheap labour there. China is also interested in establishing a gems and jewellery manufacturing and trading complex like the Gemopolis of Bangkok.
