GLIMPSES OF WORLD GEMS CENTRES GERMANY:Germany is a world gems centre, particularly for colored gemstones.Germany is located in Europe. In 1974, a combined Diamond & Precious Stones Exchange came into existence at Idar-Oberstein that has more than 200 members.

Free Trade Zone: A Free Trade Zone for diamonds started functioning in this bourse in mid-1990.

The Idar Bourse has a Diamond Testing Laboratory as well as a German Gemstones Museum. About 20 firms of Indian gemsmen are also located in Idar.

Gems Capital of Europe: Idar-Oberstein, known as the colored gemstones capital of Europe, is the most important trading centre for gemstones in Germany and Europe. Idar-Oberstein is sometimes called the Gemstones Capital of the World. Gemstones from all over the world are brought, sold and cut there. One can find anything from cheap stones to valuable gems, decorative minerals to the most expertly cut diamonds.
